The Genesis name first appeared on the Genesis sedan in 2004. However, Hyundai officially launched the Genesis brand as its luxury division in 2015. The brand entered the United States market in 2016 with the introduction of the G80 and G90 models. Hyundai made Genesis its own brand because the Genesis vehicles, including sedans and coupes from the early 2000s to mid-2010s, were already well-known.
